The year 2020 has been a powerful reminder that we are all in this together, and our choices and actions have the power to protect the most vulnerable among us in a big way. The same holds true when it comes to breast cancer. With your support, we can show every woman that her life is important. By working TOGETHER, we can inspire hope and become a force for good “to get her” access to the care she needs.
Golden Star URI CC in Pakistan always brings up awareness about those issues which are not common to discuss or talk about these topics are considered taboo. However it is very important to discuss these areas of grave concern.
Keeping that in mind our Golden Star URI CC has organized two seminars one in Shamkey Bhattian and another in Bilal Town, Lahore on 8th of October, 2020. These seminars were to celebrate Pink Ribbon Day and to give awareness to women from the rural, underprivileged and poor areas on breast cancer. There were about 150 women and young girls who participated in these seminars. Pink ribbons, awareness brushers and face masks were distributed among them. They were very much grateful that seminars were arranged on this topic about which, very often, women feel shy.
They said that such kind of programs must be arranged very frequently as we have received a lot of knowledge about our body and that how we should take good care of ourselves when and if we feel some symptoms of breast cancer we must go to see the doctors in the hospitals for proper treatments.
In the process of self examination, we need to be very careful and we should love our body. Some of the symptoms are; unusual change, pain, presence of tumor and hurdle in feeding the children dependant on mother feed. During the awareness session, people were provided face masks, applied sanitizer and pink ribbons were also given to the young girls and women. During the awareness seminar Q/A session was conducted.
Many young girls and women asked questions to the facilitator Ms Neelam Nisari URI CC Coordinator, she answered the asked questions and attendants learned a lot. All women were very thankful for the concerned facilitation on Breast Cancer, one of the major reasons of deaths in Pakistan. Through this awareness seminar, we would like to share ways forward for our community especially our government and health departments; women should take care of their body and notice change etc.
And health departments should plan surveys, free medical camps, awareness seminars and free checkups in the rural and marginalized areas. Thank you!
Ms. Neelam Nisari,
Golden Star CC
